Multiplication and Division

Understanding and knowing multiplication and division facts are essential skills in maths as they are essential to a whole range of other mathematical skills such as fractions, ratio and even time! As well as helping us to calculate, multiplication and division facts show us some of the beauty of maths through the wonderful number patterns they create! 

 

At school, we learn about each times table through the use of equipment and images, as well as investigating the patterns and the correspondence between multiplication and division. At home, there are lots of ways you can rehearse these skills, both on line and through games.

These 4 sheets could be adapted to different times tables. There are activities for the 3s, 4s, 7s and 8s.

  • A Deck of Cards This website gives load of ideas of maths games you can play with a deck of playing cards!
  • Oxford Owl There are loads of links to different activities here!
  • Arithmetic This game is great for practising multiplication, division and factors
  • Coconut Multiples Coconut Multiples is a tablet-friendly maths game which can reinforce children's knowledge of times tables by helping them to recognise the multiples from each table. They can select either multiples up to either the 12 or 10 times table. Multiples can then be worked on either as individual times tables or mixed.
  • Super Maths Bowling Do you like bowling? If so, this is probably the game for you! It helps you to practise skills from the Year 2 all the way up to the Year 6 curriculum.
