Year 6

In Year 6, children study tropical rainforests of South America, looking at the structure of a rainforest, considering the different ecosystems within and reasons why rainforests are located along the equator.

Children look at maps and photographs to locate the world's largest rainforests and they consider how rainforests are used by people, thinking about the positive and negative aspects.

In Summer term, children look at different desert regions, including polar regions.

Children consider the climatic conditions that form these regions and are able to recognise why plants and animals find it difficult to thrive in these areas.
