In Year 5, children study rivers and mountains, looking at the main river features and how mountains are formed.
Children are able to locate world rivers and mountain ranges using different maps.
They are able to look at how rivers are used in a variety of ways, looking at the positive and negative effects.
Children look at the reasons why rivers flood and some of the preventative methods that are used on some rivers.
In Spring, Year 5 visit York on a residential trip. Children use maps, plans and photographs to locate different important features and discuss why people settled along the River Ouse and River Foss.
Children are able to use map symbols and grid references to be able to locate key features.
