Instrument Lessons

2nd October 2020

Instrument Tuition Academic Year 2020-2021

Thank you for your ongoing support of instrument lessons at Sharmans Cross.  I now have a clear idea of the number of students per instrument. I have passed the registers to the peripatetic teachers so that they can timetable their groups, tailored to the current structure of our school day.  Your child will be given a precise lesson time when lessons begin (some teachers may devise a rota). Please note that there will be no mixed year groupings until further notice.

Solihull Music Service is in the final stages of receiving the go ahead from Solihull MBC to begin lessons in schools.  It is likely that these will begin at Sharmans Cross in the next week or two. With that in mind, please see the table below so that your child/children can bring their instrument into school on the appropriate day, starting from the week beginning 5th October.

Trumpet with Mr Lancaster

Cello and double bass with Miss Rottenbury

Violin with Mrs Jackson

Woodwind with Ms Kormann

Keyboard with Mr Edwards (keyboards provided in school)

Guitar with Mr Edwards

If your child is starting an instrument for the first time, you will need to ensure s/he has an instrument to play (and practise between lessons). Instruments can be ordered online using  or any instrument supplier you prefer.

I am in regular contact with staff from Solihull Music Service and have familiarised myself with the risk assessment to which they are working. I have put together a “child-friendly” version of this to stick into home school diaries, so that the children know what safety measures will be in place and how they can help with these. Please note that your help will be greatly appreciated to keep instruments and their cases clean before each weekly lesson. For more information about how Solihull Music Service is creating covid-secure practice, please visit their website .

Many Thanks
